Where is it most beautiful? At what time of year? Sea or mountains, camping tour or hotel trip? City tour or 3 weeks at an idyllic lake? West, prairie or east or do you prefer the north? Don’t be distressed. No matter what you choose, it will be good. If you are on holiday in Europoa, you will decide accordingly. In the last 23 years I have been to Québec and Ontario well over 40 times – there is still enough to discover for the rest of my life. Getting to know Ontario or Québec, or all of Canada, in two or even six weeks doesn’t work – it’ s impossible.
Canada East – Wide Country
As these pages mainly deal with Eastern Canada, I assume that you have already included this part of Canada on your shortlist. But again the question: Where to go? A Canada round trip on the east coast? Or a trip through the metropolises of the East?
Eastern Canada with its tourist highlights measures from the east, St. John’s in Newfoundland, to the far west of Ontario, Kenora, a whopping 4,500 road kilometres! As a comparison: From Cologne to Moscow it is no more than 2,400 km. It’s 4,300 km from Cologne to the Caspian Sea. Ok – take 3 months time and travel comfortably from east to west. You will certainly not regret it.
Don’t underestimate distances
Unfortunately, this does not fit into the time line of the usual holiday planning. That is why you have to prepare your two to four, or even six weeks of vacation a little. Eastern Canada is a very wide country, the distances between the different stations are repeatedely underestimated. If there is enough money in the holiday budget, this problem can be solved by plane. If you are dependent on a car or campmobile, however, precise planning is essential. First of all: It is simply a pleasure to cruise through the landscape by car and discover Canada.
But please keep in mind: Often there is a difference between planning theory and travel practice that is not to be ignored. You can make endless efforts when planning your journey, but you will still not be able to avoid improvisation on site. A solid travel guide and maps, which also work offline, is a must in every traveller’s luggage.
Travel agencies are offering numerous deals on very well-organised city and adventure tours. This allows you to reach the most important tourist destinations without having to worry about planning and administration. However, the following pages will mainly appeal to those who want to get to know the country and its people on their own – whether by motorhome or by car from hotel to motel or bed & breakfast.

The southeast of Ontario – Ottawa Valley, Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara, Algonquin Park and the Great Lakes.
